Andalucia

I have visited Spain a number of times and found it to be a place that gets under your skin. I have always found that when I visit it has always yielded something special. In particular I have a liking for Andalucia and in particular Cordoba. But I have traveled widely across Southern Spain and these images are a selection from those visits. I spent Easter one year in Rute, just south of Cordoba, a small village really famous for Anis, an aniseed flavoured spirit (seco is 55% proof, the dulce is more palatable!) and a donkey sanctuary. It was here that I went to visit the old Moorish fort just outside, really nothing more than a ruin but in the early evening light it was a very evocative and beautiful place. There are of course many pictures of La Mezquita; a place that you can never tire of it is a place with an extraordinary sense of history. For me it is just as achingly beautiful as the Alhambra Palace in Granada. And when it is hot it is a place to escape the searing heat of an Andalucian summer. I also asked politely if I could take a photo of the sweet shop in Cordoba, la dulceria. They didn’t mind and I got a photo of one of my favourite shops, jellied candies, toffee and fudge, what more can you want in life? The other images are from Extremadura and Ciudad Rodrigo and a couple from Toledo.
